A West Des Moines doctor accused of incompetence has had his license placed on probation for one year.

Iowa Board of Medicine records indicate the board initiated four separate investigations of family-medicine practitioner Dr. Dale Grunewald in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

In January 2022, the board issued a then-confidential order directing Grunewald to complete a comprehensive clinical competency evaluation. The evaluation was completed in September 2022, although the board has not disclosed its findings.
