Nonprofit good government group Common Cause held a rally Tuesday in the Capitol Rotunda in support of measures advocates say will improve New Mexico’s democracy, including paying state lawmakers a salary and boosting funds for election security.

New Mexico is the only Legislature in the country with unsalaried lawmakers. If approved by voters, House Joint Resolution 5 would amend the state Constitution to allow for lawmaker pay.
