The Republican sponsor of a bill reshaping the Kentucky Public Service Commission eliminated provisions that critics had warned would silence the voices of average consumers in utility rate cases.

Sen. Brandon Smith, R-Hazard, amended his Senate Bill 8 Friday morning before the GOP-controlled Senate voted 30-5 to approve the modified bill and send it to the House of Representatives. Sen. Lindsey Tichenor, R-Smithfield, voted to “pass” on SB 8.
