The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced Friday that it is restructuring the classification of private and public schools.

Under the new AHSAA classification, private schools and public schools will still compete against each other in the regular season but will not compete for the same championships, the first time that will happen in state history.

The reclassification also included dismantling the “financial barriers for private school eligibility.”
