The Alabama House of Representatives approved legislation last week to reimburse larger public utility companies whenever they spend money to accommodate projects from the Alabama Department of Transportation.

HB 542, sponsored by Rep. Chris Blackshear, R-Smith Station, authorizes the state agency to reimburse utilities that have an annual gross income of at least $250 million for expenses whenever they need to move assets to accommodate one of ALDOT’s road projects.
