The Alabama House of Representatives Thursday passed a bill that would increase the penalty for firing a gun into an occupied school or school bus.

HB 420, sponsored by Rep. Mack Butler, R-Rainbow City, increases the crime of shooting a firearm inside of an occupied school from a Class B felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison to a Class A felony punishable by 10 to 99 years in prison.
