The Alabama House of Representatives Thursday passed a bill that prohibits teaching three-cueing as a reading method.

SB 168, sponsored by Sen. Donnie Chesteen, R-Geneva, codifies a ban on the three-cueing method issued by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) in 2024. According to ExcelinEd in Action, three-cueing teaches students to read using meaning, structure and syntax, and visual cues.
