An Alabama legislative committee Thursday approved contracts worth $800,000 with four law firms to defend Alabama Department of Corrections staff and corrections officers in civil lawsuits filed by people who have been incarcerated and their families.

Members of the Joint Legislative Contract Review Committee committee approved the awarded contracts without discussion.
