Gov. Kay Ivey Wednesday said she had scheduled a June 11 nitrogen gas execution for Jeffrey Lee, 50, convicted of the murders of Jimmy Ellis and Elaine Thompson in 1998.

Lee would be the first person that Alabama will put to death this year, after Ivey commuted the execution of Charles “Sonny” Burton in March, days before he was to be put to death.
