Arkansas Advocate staff won five first-place awards, including for its series exploring overcrowding in the state prison system, in the 2026 Arkansas Press Women Professional Communications Contest over the weekend.

The Advocate’s “Overcrowded” series by Deputy Editor Antoinette Grajeda and reporters Tess Vrbin and Ainsley Platt won first place in the in-depth reporting category. The four-part series last year explored the consequences of the state’s growing prison population.
