New restrictions on sending physical books, magazines and other reading materials to people incarcerated in Arkansas state prisons are on hold for now, the state’s top prison official says.

Arkansas Department of Corrections Secretary Lindsay Wallace told the Advocate Friday that the restrictions, which were originally approved last month, needed to go through the administrative rulemaking process. The restrictions were intended to take effect later this week.
