Arkansas received two federal grants totaling nearly $25 million over five years to support literacy instruction, the state’s education department said Thursday.

The two awards are part of $256 million in Education Innovation and Research grant funding announced by the U.S. Department of Education in December. More than 65% of the awards, totaling more than $167 million, will support projects in rural areas, according to a news release from the federal agency.
