Reporters at The Bellingham Herald are among the 31 workers at four Washington newspapers walking out for a one-day strike on Tuesday, May 26, citing low wages and company spending on artificial intelligence.

McClatchy Media, a publishing company that runs 30 outlets across the United States, owns the newspapers in Bellingham, Tacoma, Olympia and Kennewick. In 2020, New Jersey-based hedge fund Chatham Asset Management purchased the media chain after it filed for bankruptcy. …
