The Alabama Legislature Wednesday gave final approval to a bill that would ban the unlawful tethering of dogs in the state after a lengthy debate in the Alabama House of Representatives that featured cross-party combinations on both sides of the law.

SB 361, sponsored by President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, R-Cullman, makes it illegal to tether a dog to a stationary object, including trees and poles, without providing adequate shelter, food or water.
