WINDHAM — Hundreds of Black men from New Hampshire fought in the American Revolutionary War, some as free volunteers, others as enslaved men sent to battle with the hope of gaining their freedom.

A number of them came from towns in southern New Hampshire, including Londonderry, Salem and Plaistow, serving alongside white neighbors in the same regiments.
