A physician recruiter and leader of the state’s higher education oversight board announced Friday she intends to run for Congress.

Misti Cordell of Monroe, chair of the Louisiana Board of Regents, will seek the 5th Congressional District seat U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow is vacating to run for U.S. Senate. State Sen. Rick Edmonds, R-Baton Rouge, also declared this week he will enter the race.
