Bob Rucho, a former state senator, has resigned his seat on the State Board of Elections.

State Auditor Dave Boliek announced Thursday he has appointed Angela Hawkins of Wake County to replace Rucho.

Boliek’s statement did not address the reason for Rucho’s resignation, but Rucho said in an interview that he resigned over contributions to sheriffs’ campaigns that he did not know he was prohibited from making. State law prohibits elections board members …
