Bush Foundation grant to Our Streets leader shows willingness to invest in the long-term future

In the middle of the last century, Minnesota’s powerbrokers made a series of decisions that reshaped communities for generations.

Through highway expansion and planning efforts associated with the trend known as urban renewal, these leaders advanced their vision of mobility, economic growth and modernization. In this process, thriving neighborhoods were divided. Homes and businesses were demolished. Black, immigrant and economically disadvantaged families were subjected to the unequal burden of displacement, disinvestment and disruption.
