Choosing to “self-deport” does not guarantee protection against immigration enforcement, as one family living in Bellingham experienced last week.

CBP Home, a mobile app run by the federal government through which immigrants can arrange to voluntarily leave the United States, promises $2,600 “exit bonuses” and that those who qualify will be “deprioritized for detention and removal.”
