A committee in the Florida Senate unanimously passed a proposal on Wednesday that charitable bail fund organizations say will make it practically impossible for them to operate in Florida.

The proposal (SB 600), sponsored by Sen. Keith Truenow, R-Tavares, says that if a nonprofit organization provides cash bail to an individual following an arrest and release from jail, that money ultimately must be returned to the defendant and not the nonprofit group.
