The Port Townsend City Council unanimously approved a transition plan creating the city’s first deputy city manager position for Public Works Director Steve King.

“I’m grateful, humbled and thankful,” King told The Leader after the Aug. 3 city council meeting.

King’s appointment, pending council approval of a salary schedule and job description, follows City Manager John Mauro’s announcement that he will leave Port Townsend after seven years to become city manager of Bainbridge Island.
