Yakima Valley College instructor Claire Carpenter has been sharing her passion for biology with local students for 23 years.

Prior to moving to Yakima, she lived all around the country, and even spent a year in Antarctica with her now-husband, Gary Miller, a veterinarian. They met on the continent during a prior trip.

"We met at midnight on New Year's Eve on top of a mountain in Antarctica," Carpenter recalled.
