New Mexico health officials on Tuesday confirmed the first measles case of the year, a federal inmate held in the Hidalgo County Detention Center with an unknown vaccination status.

State health officials said in a news release they were working with Hidalgo County officials to ensure quarantine and vaccination rules were followed to contain spread.
