A trio of Republican bills with bipartisan backing aimed at requiring hospitals to provide new protections for health care professionals against long-term radiation exposure risks is running into stiff opposition from hospital administrators.

The legislation is a reaction to the increased cancer rate among cardiovascular interventionalists, heart specialists who specialize in surgeries and procedures that use a catheter to fix faulty valves, blocked arteries and other cardiovascular issues without doing open-heart surgery.
