A bill moving in the West Virginia Legislature would allow the state Department of Human Services to continue drug testing welfare recipients indefinitely.

The House Health Committee on Thursday advanced House Bill 5582 to the full House with a recommendation that the bill pass.

Since 2017, drug testing has been a requirement for low-income West Virginia households who receive benefits through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program under a pilot program.
