Legislation approved and advanced by the Iowa House Higher Education Committee Wednesday would restrict public university hiring practices and private university offices and expand career and technical education and apprenticeship program possibilities.

House Study Bill 537, a copy of last year’s failed legislation to put the Iowa Tuition Grant on the line for private universities operating diversity, equity and inclusion offices, passed through subcommittee Monday before reaching the committee.
