Iowa Sen. Julian Garrett, R-Indianola, has died following a battle with cancer.

Garrett, age 85, had announced in March that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and said he would not seek reelection in Iowa Senate District 11. Senate Majority Leader Mike Klimesh said in a statement Tuesday that he and Senate Republicans were “saddened” to hear of Garrett’s death on Monday.
