Doña Ana County Clerk Amanda López Askin was leading in the Democratic primary for the Secretary of State by a more than 8,000-vote margin over Santa Fe County Clerk Katharine Clark, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

The outcome will pit the winner against Republican candidate Ramona Goolsby, a nurse practitioner, in the Nov. 3 general election. Goolsby ran unopposed in the primary election.
