Republican legislators are blaming Gov. Janet Mills for the rumored increase in immigration operations in Maine because she allowed a new law to limit local cooperation with federal agents.

“This is what happens when you have a Governor who puts political brinkmanship over the safety of Maine citizens,” Senate Minority Leader Trey Stewart (R-Aroostook) said in a statement Thursday. “Her actions place law enforcement and the general public at heightened risk.”
