Maine lawmakers are considering a suite of legislation to address the child care shortage experienced by families across the state.

The Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee heard two of these proposals during a public hearing Wednesday afternoon. Senate President Mattie Daughtry (D-Cumberland) introduced LD 1414, which would offer grants for providers who offer off-hour care and increase support for a state subsidy program to help Mainers afford the cost of care.
