A former Senate Majority leader whose opposition to legalizing same sex marriage over a decade ago drew renewed scrutiny last summer is one of four attorneys Gov. Dan McKee nominated Friday to lifetime appointments to Rhode Island’s courts.

The nominees were made to fill vacancies in Superior, District and Family courts. Each will require vetting by the Rhode Island Senate, where chamber President Valarie Lawson said hearings are still being scheduled.
