A little over a week ago, the "first" monarch butterflies, according to my NH Phenology calendar, were expected to arrive.

Reading that made me look, and indeed, I saw my first monarch. I excitedly told my neighbors, who said they had been seeing them for at least a week. I then excitedly told a gardener friend who lives along the coast, and she showed me the almost full-grown monarch caterpillars on her milkweed.
