The Senate Committee on Judiciary Tuesday unanimously voted to advance the Superior Court associate justice and the chamber’s former president nominated by Gov. Dan McKee to oversee Rhode Island’s top trial court to a floor vote.

If approved by the full Senate Thursday afternoon, Joseph Montalbano will become responsible for assigning judges to specialty calendars and selecting the jury commissioner — along with overseeing some 165 staffers including clerks and stenographers.
