The New Mexico State Senate on Tuesday night passed House Bill 9, the Immigrant Safety Act, on a 24-15 vote, with all Republicans opposed to the bill.

The legislation, which was amended after introduction, will prohibit public bodies across the state from signing onto ICE detention contracts and block law enforcement agencies from signing agreements to serve immigration warrants at local jails.
