Homeless shelters are “the only place left on Earth where you are treated like a human being,” said Samantha Carpenter, a current resident at the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter in Waterville. “When you’re homeless, you’re invisible. You spend every day being told to move along and keep walking.”
