New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has named a 24-year New Mexico State Police veteran as interim police chief, following the retirement last week of former Chief Troy Weisler.

According to a news release Friday from the governor’s office, incoming interim Chief Matt Broom began his career in 2001 as a patrolman in Artesia and went on to oversee major investigations into drug trafficking and crimes against children before becoming deputy chief in 2021.
