While cigarette use has declined in New Mexico, the state health department reported on Friday that residents are vaping more, “trading one public health risk for another,” according to a news release.

Between 2022 and 2024, the percentage of New Mexico adults smoking cigarettes dropped from 15% to 11.7%, while the use of e-cigarettes increased from 7.3% to 8.2% during the same time period.
