Only one name is preserved in full at the Northern State Hospital Cemetery.

It’s at the back of the roughly 1.8-acre grassy plot near the former mental institution’s main campus just north of Sedro-Woolley.

“John K. Davis” is etched in faded lettering on the headstone, where people have placed coins in a gesture of remembrance. The inscription indicates Davis died in 1913 at age 34.
