PORTSMOUTH — The City Council voted to approve a $400,000 supplemental appropriation this week to continue paying for outside counsel to fight a lawsuit brought against the city in 2022.

City Attorney Susan Morrell told the council the city has already spent about $500,000 on the McLane Middleton law firm, which was hired to defend the case filed against the city, the Portsmouth Housing Authority and other parties.
