PORTSMOUTH — A lightning strike recently damaged equipment that helps operate the lights on the Memorial Bridge, according to Peter Rice, the city’s public works director.

One of the computer controllers that city employees use to coordinate the multi-color lighting was afffected, he said.

That’s why the lights on the iconic structure have been off at night for a couple of weeks, Rice said.
