PORTSMOUTH — City Councilor Kate Cook raised the possibility of creating a Heritage Commission to protect historic homes outside the city’s historic district from demolition.

Cook pointed to hearing “some very significant questions that have been raised by residents in the last year around heritage properties that are going away.”

An example, she said, is the historic barn on Austin Street that is “slated for demolition.”
