Amid growing complaints about rising local property taxes, Senate Leader Phil Berger has filed a bill to stop local governments from instituting property tax revaluation changes in 2026.

All proposed property value adjustments would be put on hold until 2027 under Senate Bill 889. Berger (R-Rockingham) said the pause would give the General Assembly time to consider options for property tax reform.
