Close to 100 people stood in the cold drizzle outside the Statehouse Monday morning to protest illegal immigration and legislation meant to protect immigrants in New Jersey from President Donald Trump’s mass deportation mission.

Assemblyman Paul Kanitra (R-Ocean), who organized the rally, urged supporters to demand that Gov. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat, reject three bills the Legislature’s Democratic majority were poised to pass Monday afternoon. Kanitra called the bills “insane.”
