In all my years I have never been awakened by the sounds I heard Sunday morning, Jan. 26, 2026.

The loud cracking and splitting of trees sounded like gunfire and I felt paralyzed until I remembered the temperatures dropping and the sleet and snow falling the day before. I thought we might lose power any moment and that I should wake my husband Larry and grab a hot shower while I could.
