Interim U.S. Attorney Charles “Chas” Calenda’s 120-day term as Rhode Island’s top federal prosecutor expired Tuesday. But he’s still leading the Providence office.

Calenda announced Wednesday morning that Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche appointed him as a “Special Attorney” and designated him as First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island.
