Five candidates—including a chief SEIU steward, a businesswoman, a 24-year old progressive and former registered Republican—are set for a Democratic primary election for a state Assembly seat.

Nevada State Assembly District 1, which covers areas of North Las Vegas, is considered a safe Democratic district. Among registered voters in the district, 34% of constituents are Democrats, 33% are nonpartisan, and 25% are Republicans, according to state demographic data.
