Donald Trump appointed Jeff Gunter ambassador to Iceland in 2018, and Gunter served in the post until 2021. Since then, Trump twice has had the opportunity to endorse Gunter for a seat in the U.S Congress. Both times, Trump endorsed somebody else.

Gunter, who lost the Republican U.S. Senate primary to Trump-endorsed candidate Sam Brown in 2024, is one of four Republicans running in the primary for Nevada’s third congressional district.
