Every Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle will soon carry an automated external defibrillator thanks to a $22,000 anonymous donation inspired by a recent life saved during the Rhody Run.

An AED is a portable device that analyzes a person’s heart rhythm and can deliver an electric shock to help restore a normal heartbeat during sudden cardiac arrest.

Before the donation, Black said the sheriff’s office had a couple of AEDs scattered around the department.
