An Alabama House committee carried over a bill on Wednesday that would require local school boards to set aside time for the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer and religious texts or risk losing funding.

HB 43, sponsored by Reed Ingram, R-Pike Road, would require local school boards to vote on a policy to allow students, faculty and staff to read religious texts and pray within designated spots in schools.
