State Rep. Dixon McMakin, R-Baton Rouge, is dropping out of the race for the 5th Congressional District seat, just days before qualifying.

McMakin announced his candidacy just last month to replace U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, R-Baton Rouge, who joined the field to challenge U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge.
